Elementary, middle school and high school counselors.

One in four students has been exposed to traumatic events.  These experiences can have a negative impact on student learning.  There is a strong link between childhood trauma and school related problems such as poor academic performance, increased behavioral problems, and higher dropout rates.  This reality calls for school personnel to become knowledgeable and prepared to use the “trauma lens” in understanding children’s responses, and assisting with appropriate interventions.

Join certified Youth Mental Health First Aid and Trauma Informed Care Trainers, Lisa Loague and Kathy Maciel, as they conduct a workshop designed to explore the foundational elements of trauma informed care for educators so that those in school settings can:

• Describe the effects of trauma exposure on students and their behavior

• Identify students who have had been exposed to trauma

• Implement appropriate and effective ways of responding to students with trauma exposure

• Develop and implement goals to help schools become more trauma informed

• Collaborate with community partners to assist students with trauma exposure
