Cost: GRECC members: $100.00, Non-GRECC members: $200.00

Description:

Effective teachers know the importance of engaging students, integrating literacy strategies, and designing inquiry lessons that embed critical thinking, but what does that look and sound like in social studies?  Join us and experience strategies for moving from a teacher-centered to a more student-centered social studies classroom.  On day 1, attendees will participate in a variety of lessons that illustrate these topics:

  • Teaching social studies using inquiry practices
  • Research-based social studies strategies
  • Locating quality sources and resources

Teachers will need to bring a future lesson or unit topic and join with grade-level peers to plan strategies and locate resources on that topic. On the follow-up day 2, teachers will share strategies tried and sources used in their classrooms and how they impacted student learning.
